How do PDO threads work?

Polydioxanone (PDO) is a synthetic fiber that completely dissolves in the tissue over time. It is used in the production of skin and subcutaneous sutures. The procedure involves inserting PDO threads into the skin (in selected areas) using a very thin needle. After insertion, the needle is removed, and a dressing is applied to the skin. The treatment creates a scaffold around which the body begins the process of neocollagenesis (production of new collagen fibers), stimulates fibroblasts to increase elastin synthesis, and the synthesis of endogenous hyaluronic acid.
