How do PDO Threads Work?

Polydioxanone (PDO) is a synthetic fiber that dissolves completely in the tissue over time. It is commonly used in the production of skin and subcutaneous sutures. The treatment involves inserting PDO threads into the skin (in selected areas) using a very thin needle. After insertion, the needle is removed, and a dressing is applied. The treatment creates a scaffold around which the body begins the process of neocollagenesis (the production of new collagen fibers), stimulates fibroblasts to increase the synthesis of elastin, and promotes the synthesis of endogenous hyaluronic acid.
